Microlighting and Sky Riders

E-mail Print PDF

Microlighting is a new-age, adventure sport that provides people of all ages with one of the best oportunities to fly free as a bird. Microlights are mini-aircraft, small enough to pack-up and transport by car, yet flexible enough to carry two persons from Pretoria to Nelspruit, or even further depending on the engine and aircraft configuration.

It is a fast-expanding sport, attracting both men and women who have never flown before, as well as experienced pilots from other flying disciplines, who want to enjoy the freedom, affordability and "wind-in-the-face" flying that microlighting offers.

Although microlights appear to be flimsy, having been described as comprising used bicycle parts powered by a go-kart engine, they are indeed extremely safe aircraft. Combined with the intensive training offered by the experienced instructors from Sky Riders, one of the biggest microlight training schools in South Africa, there is no reason why you should not immediately book your demonstration flight.

Sky Riders operates the biggest microlighting airport in the country (called Microland) and offer not only flying instruction, but also microlights and equipment sales.

If you are looking for an excellent stress-reducer and want to experience a natural "high", look no further - microlighting is your sport. Similarly, if you are wanting to do your private pilot's licence (ppl), then microlighting offers you an alternative route to a ppl, as there are several flying schools that will accept half of your microlight flying hours, up to a maximum of 25 hours, as contributing to the 40 hours that are necessary for a private pilot's licence.
